Thank you to my parents for their support with this cool project. This is my first science fair project, and even with all the stress and mishaps, I still had fun. Without their support, I would not have been able to finish. Thank you!
Introduction
One day, I was watching videos on YouTube and saw a video of ferrofluid being controlled by an electromagnet. I wanted to know if the voltage going to the electromagnet could be changed, and how that would affect the magnetic field. My dad helped me design a test rig that would allow me to change both voltage and current, being supplied to and electromagnet.
I used 5 ml of ferrofluid in a petri dish, to make the magnetic field visible, and to allow the magnetic field to affect non-magnetic objects in experiment #3. I measured and recorded how much the ferrofluid moved when the voltage and current were changed. After completing 3 trials with 3 variables in 3 different experiments, the data showed that as voltage or current were increased, so did the strength of the magnetic field. This also supported my hypothesis.
